Every game day

Yellow and orange jacket

Managers must wear the yellow jacket at all times during games. This is so you are clearly visible to match officials.

Each team must also provide one ground control person who wears an orange jacket at all ovals except when playing at Kareela 2 and 3 where two ground control persons are required.  The ground control person cannot be the same person as the designated coach or manager.  The ground control person is responsible for the behaviour of their own spectators and must cooperate with the Club Ground Controllers at all times.

Match sheets

  • U6-u11: Fill in the coach, manager, team ground control names and sign the match sheets, available at the venue ground control office.  Match sheets must be filled out for both home and away games at the venue’s ground control office before the game.
  • U12 and over:
    • Before the game – fill in the match sheets, available at the venue ground control office correctly. If you’re unsure ask a committee person or official. It is important to write down shirt numbers, coach, manager and team ground control name(s) before the game.  Fines apply for incorrectly completed sheets.
    • After the game – after the referee has signed the sheet – check the score on the match sheet and then sign the sheet.
    • If there is any dispute, write your query on the back of the match sheet, along with your name, position in the team and signature.  Any dispute written on the back of the match sheet must also be emailed to secretary@gufc.com.au who will follow it up with Association.

Player identification cards

U12 and over only (u10 & u11 ID card must only be produced if a player is being borrowed into a u12 or u13 team) :

  • The coach or manager should keep the ID cards and bring them to the game each week.
  • Sight ID cards on the field with the opposition manager and in view of the referee (who will note this on the match sheet). Fines apply if you don’t do this.  Usually, you check the ID cards of the other team making sure that each player is an eligible player for the team you are playing against.
  • Ensure you have the team ID cards after the match. If a player has been sent off, you will need to find the referee and give them the player’s ID card to him/her.  If you do not do this the club will receive a fine.
  • Remember:  No ID card, NO PLAY!

Team behaviour

Always ensure your team’s behaviour (including players, coaches and spectators) is appropriate and in line with our codes of conduct.

Match ball

Ensure the match ball is always at the game and is properly inflated. At Gymea Bay Oval, a pump is available in the male changeroom.

Uniforms

Make sure all players:

  • Wear the official GUFC uniform
  • Wear shin guards
  • Have their shirts tucked into their shorts

Fines apply from the Sutherland Shire Football Association if this is not done.

Pre season

Schedule training

It is very IMPORTANT for all coaches and managers to register on the SSFA Shared Services website as soon as possible.  Training allocations can only be booked by registered team coaches and managers via the SSFA Shared Services website.

Shirt numbers

All players u12 and over are required to wear a unique number of the back of their playing strip shirt. Watch the website for uniform shop opening times to have shirt numbers put on prior to the season start.  The GUFC uniform shop at Gymea Bay Oval is then open each Saturday and Sunday of the season while games are being played.

Managers meeting

Attend the pre season coaches and managers meeting to pickup your team’s kit bag (if required) and manager’s guide.  All teams are provided with a match ball, yellow jacket and goalie jersey (except u6-u10). If you require a kit bag – containing bibs and cones – contact GUFC gear officer uniforms@gufc.com.au

During the season

Keep yourself informed

  • Join the GUFC Coaches & Managers Facebook group – this will be used primarily by GUFC for immediate updates
  • Check your e-mail for the weekly Striker
  • Check you mobile phone for SMS alerts
  • Collect material from your team pigeon hole every fortnight – in 2020 we do not expect you to collect mail each fortnight – if there is material for collection we will let you know via the GUFC C&M Facebook page. This is located in the Gymea Bay Oval ground control office
  • Check this website regularly for club news and announcements

Keep your team informed

  • Ensure all team members are aware of www.gufc.com.au
  • LIKE the Gymea United Football Club Facebook page
  • Ensure all team members subscribe to the e-newsletter
  • For team members who don’t have email, make sure you inform them of any key news/events
  • Set up your own system for regular communication with your team (sms, email etc.) on game times, training and other team matters.

Ground control

Check your emails and the website to see if your team is rostered on for ground control
Understand what ground control involves.  When your team is rostered, coordinate your team members to undertake the duty.

Injuries

Complete a white Accident Form in the event of any injuries. On game days, these are available at ground control offices (any ground) and will be sent to the SSFA with the match sheet.  If a Accident Form was forgotten to be filled out, your team’s coach or manager must email  secretary@gufc.com.au of the incident. You should include Ground / Player’s Name / Date of Injury / Team / Nature of Injury / Any Remarks

For incidents at training, contact secretary@gufc.com.au  who will complete a report for you.

Alternate Strip

Alternate strips are available from ground control at Gymea Bay Oval.  Competition teams (u12+) must wear an alternate strip when:

– playing Bangor; and
– playing another GUFC team.  Please note, the GUFC team drawn as the home team wears the alternate strip

Please return the shirts to ground control as soon as possible after your game, washed if possible.

Wet weather

Wet weather occasionally forces training and games to be cancelled.

  • Training
During the week, Sutherland Shire Council determines if fields are playable. If the grounds are closed, under no circumstances is training to go ahead, as Council can impose fines.  In the event of wet weather:

    • Check www.gufc.com.au for updates  (Note: You can call the Sutherland Shire Council Wet Weather Line 9710 0105 to find out if fields are open/closed. However, Council may leave grounds open, but GUFC may close our grounds, due to the state of our field, it is always best to check www.gufc.com.au)
    • Inform your team.
  • Game days
The SSFA determines if games are played. The Council Wet Weather Line doesn’t apply on the weekends. In the event of wet weather:

    • You will receive an SMS from GUFC if a play is canceled/moved. You can also check the GUFC Coaches & Managers Facebook group,  www.gufc.com.au and the SSFA website for updates.
    • Inform your team. For early games, the decision may not come before you need to leave for the game. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable, due to the grounds not being inspected by the SSFA until 6.30am. Also note that just because some games are called off, others may go ahead eg morning games could be off, while afternoon games are on.

Team behaviour and member protection

At training, GUFC events and games, always ensure your team behaviour is appropriate and in line with our codes of conduct. Deal with any issues promptly, seriously and sensitively.  For general issues, contact the appropriate committee person. For sensitive issues, contact GUFC secretary secretary@gufc.com.au

Gear

The match ball, jacket, goalie jersey and any kit bag provided remain the property of the club. Team manager’s are responsible for returning it at the end of the season. Details of where and when will be advised.
