The GUFC Academy Term 2 program runs for 10 weeks starting Friday 3rd of May and will be run by renowned football coach Steve Gordon!
Steve has a stellar resume with experience developing talent at all ages most recently he has coached the Sutherland Sharks 1st grade NPL1 Men’s and U20s Men’s teams and is the current Head Coach for the 1st grade Illawarra Stingray NPL1 Women’s team.
The first session will start with a muster to identify the players skills and from there they will be placed into groups to focus on 4 core skills:
- Striking the ball: this includes all forms of striking the ball such as short/long passing, shooting and crossing
- First Touch: controlling the ball with all allowed body parts
- 1v1: all moves, feints and accelerations to get past and away from an opponent
- Running with the ball: at speed (with a lot of space) or ‘dribbling’ (in tight areas), this includes techniques for protecting the ball and changing direction.
For the younger groups, these skills are presented, in a fun and enjoyable way through game play. The older kids, we also target positioning play, problem solving games with rolls and responsibilities. There are also opportunities for new or current coaches to see how things are done and put forward. With training games they can use with their teams.
