Gymea United Football Club is a volunteer organisation that depends on players, members and parents to assist where they can and we gratefully thank everyone for their contributions.  Over many years, some individuals have made outstanding contributions and the Club has been delighted to recognise this formally by awarding them Life Membership status.

Ron RICH First Life Member (1965).  Founding member. Vice President 1963 & President 1965.  Member of First Executive Committee formed 1963.

Cyril O’NEILL
 (dec.) Foundation President 1960, 1961 & 1962.  Life member 1966.

Bill ROBB (dec. 2012) Founding member.  First Vice President  (3 years), President 1963 & 1964.  Local M.P., Patron of the Club, JP & Authorised Civil Marriage & Funeral Celebrant.

Ross SMITH (dec.) Secretary 1963-1974. Tireless committee member.

Ada SMITH (dec.)  Social Secretary 1963-68.  Registrar 1976-81.  Asst Registrar SSJSFA 1980 & 81. Twenty years on the Management Committee.

Andy Watson Long-term committee member. Gear Officer, coach & trainer. The table in the change room was used by many players for one of Andy’s massages. Also worked with rep. teams.  Always wears a cap, often a flat cap! (“Andy Capp”).

Stan ELLIS (dec. 1984) President 1969 & 70. Vice President 1966-1968, 1977&78. Committee member 1965-1980. Involved in every aspect of the game (planting grass by hand, watering oval, ground control, social activities, refereeing etc.)  Dream to see Gymea United become a force in junior soccer. Nurtured the 21A’s to become Champion of Champions in 1977.

Ruby ELLIS (dec. 2012) Known as Ruby the Rattler – most vocal at games. A dedicated manager & true supporter of the game between raising seven children and holding many positions on the committee.  Stan & Ruby acted as guarantors for the building of the first canteen.  They also launched women’s soccer in 1975.  “Green & White” to the end. Sadly, her last attendance was at our 50th year dinner.  Ruby passed away in 2012, aged in her nineties.

Shirley HARRIS (dec. 2022) Minutes Secretary  1963 – 74, Asst. Secretary 1976-78. Social Committee &  Ladies Auxiliary member – represented Club at Assn for 12 years.

Greg HARRIS (dec. 2020) President 1972,73,75 – 78. Junior  Vice President at SSJSFA & sat on Assocation. Protests & Disputes Committee for 10 years.

Rob GLASS (dec. 1994) Club member 24 years. President 1979 – 1989, 1992 & 1993. Manager of many teams. Known as “Uncle Rob”. Trophy cabinet named in his honour.

Laurie DEAN (dec. 1982) Sen Vice President 1966-early 70’s.  Jun Vice President 1976 – 78. Association Management Committee 1969.

Terry HIBBINS Committee member 1977 – 91.  Secretary for 11 years , 1979-1989. Coached & played for many years currently coaching 35A’s & JW’s teams.

Maureen HIBBINS Committee member 1976-90. Publicity & Social Secretary, 1977-88. Newsletter editor and compiler for more than 10 years.

Bill FISHER (dec.) Committee member 1962 onwards.  Coached nursery teams.

Harry BASTERFIELD (dec.) Committee member 1964 into 1970’s.  President 1966. Head Coach 1964 & 65. Management Committee SSJSFA 1967. Judiciary Committee 1969.

Max CAMERON Committee member 1975 into 1990’s.  Secretary 1975 & 76, Ground control  1978, Senior Vice President 1979.

Doug BARR Senior Vice President 1984-87.  Management Committee 1982-87.

Alan McALPINE (dec. 2012) Secretary 1977 & 78.  Committee member 1976 onwards.

Ken LANDSBERRY (dec.) Committee member during the 1970’s.

Brian WARD (dec. 2013) Coach, manager & player from 1982 until his retirement in 2004 (23 years).  Member of the inaugural 0’35’s Premier Team in 1987. Treasurer almost 20 years.

Harry JOHNSTON (dec. 2012) Coach during the 1980’s.  Joined the Management Committee in 1989.  Barman supreme.

Stewart TEAL  President  1998 – 2008  Second longest serving behind late Rob Glass (13 years).  Player 39 years.  Management Committee 1984 – 2008. Association Committee 4 years. Ground Controller 1984 – 86. Junior Vice President 1987. Vice President 1991-1995. Registrar 1997, Coaching including Head Coach, 25 years.

Ray DENNIS President 1994-97. Various portfolios on Committee including Competition Secretary 1989-91 and Ground Controller 1992. Dedicated club supporter.

Peter BLACKER Vice President, delegate to Association.  Committee member 1979-2006.  Managed his three sons’ teams for over 25 years.

Darryl CLARK Management Committee member 10 years.  Association Committee 5 years.  Liaison officer with Council on ovals. Team manager for many years.  Is currently head of grants committee.

Eileen WARD Secretary 19 years, 1991-2009.  A widely recognised, universally liked life member after many years of dedicated service and consistent friendliness to multiple generations of Gymea soccer players.  The club depended on her to run smoothly for many years.

Bryan MOLAN Player, coach & committee member for over 15 years. Vice President 10 years. Carried out building projects & maintained club facilities.

Dale KING Club member 15 years. Involved at many levels including player, coach, grading panel and committee member with various portfolios including many years selecting trophies.

John BAILEY Committee Member 2002-2010.  Ground & turf ‘specialist’.  Longstanding player for over 20 years including most recently O45’s.

Wendy SMITHERS Committee member 1997-2015, 2016-2020. Canteen Supervisor 15+ years making our canteen No. 1 in the Shire.

Pat JOHNSTON  all round great lady.  General helper for anything and everything GUFC.  Licensee of Boomerang Bar for many years.

Cathy ECONOMOS A longstanding registrar and assistant to the club in the registration process.  Cathy was involved with the club over a number of years as player, manager and an enthusiastic supporter of junior and senior football.

Gary WALL Committee member from 2006 to present including head coach (2007-2013) and President 2014-2015.  Project manager of many GBO improvements including walkway, upgraded lighting and women’s changeroom.

Michael BLUMOR Player for many season.  Honorary Treasurer from 2007 until 2015.  Creator of GUFC Long Term Strategic Plan. Organiser of successful Grant Applications until present time.  Licensee of Boomerang Bar since 2016.  Heart of club until present day.

Michael LEWIS general committee person from 2007 until 2011.  Fabulous helper and fixer of all things.

Doug SPARKS  builder of all Gymea Bay Oval improvements since 2008.  General committee person from 2008 until now.  Club referee of many games for many seasons.

Lisa BROWN registrar extraordinaire of a generation of GUFC players. First to put up her hand to help in all areas of the club including canteen, ground control and bar.

Cherie DONOGHUE filler of big shoes after the retirement of Eileen Ward. Nine years as Secretary and eight years conveyor of all communications.  SSFA Judiciary Committee since 2017.

Mark HILDEBRANDT GUFC champion at SSFA JC meetings. Positions held include Vice President, Head Coach and Registrar.

Anthony SEVERINO general organiser of all trial games & presentations for many years before moving on to President in 2016. Current GUFC President, excellently guiding club … particularly during the years of pandemic.
