Dean Cup FINAL Scoreboard

SHFC GUFC
12 13

Round 17 Update: We couldn’t have asked for a more exciting end to the competition to claim the inaugural Dean Cup! After SHFC streaked ahead after Round 12, GUFC has clawed its way back to level the score to 12 points all after 2 tightly contested wins and a draw in Round 17. It now comes down the last clash this Saturday in the 13A/1 game. All the best to both SHFC and GUFC 1 teams in Round 18. No pressure, but the prestige of winning the magnificent trophy rests on their shoulders!

This year to celebrate Sylvania Heights Football Club’s (SHFC) 60th anniversary in 2018 and Gymea United’s (GUFC) 60th year in 2019 both clubs will participate in a very special “competition within a competition”.

A special scoreboard will be maintained weekly and updated on both websites (see news box on bottom right corner of GUFC website) to measure the best of these two historic clubs across all 2019 normal season competition games between GUFC and SHFC. The winning club will be awarded and hold aloft the very prestigious Dean Cup at seasons end.

As a result of our geographic closeness, both clubs have shared many players across the years … although the rivalry on the park has always been fierce. We hope the Dean Cup will further bring our clubs together off the field and ensure on field the competition remains strong.

Why the Dean Cup?

Both clubs have a life member from the same family. GUFC recognised life member Laurie Dean for his tireless efforts for the Club during the 1960s and 1970s. SHFC has recognised his son Alan (Dixie) Dean as a playing life member. Alan has played for SHFC for 39 years and still torments centre forwards today playing for SHFC’s 45A team.

The photo to the right shows Laurie Dean on the left at the back as Manager of the GUJSC 10A team. Dixie is the little guy in the front row and his older brother Trevor is in the back row on the left – right in front of his Dad.

The perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the winning Club by a member of the Dean family at an appropriate function at season end.

To give you some idea of these men and the great contributions they have made to their respective clubs we invite you to review the below.

The picture below sees Laurie Dean (in the Wheel Barrow) contesting a Gentleman vs Ladies game held annually in the early days of GUFC. Laurie is helping out the ladies team. A true club man.
