Golden Borrowing Rule: if you have any doubt, DO NOT borrow the player!
It is really important to borrow correctly. If you do not, unfortunately your team loses the points if you won the game, and the club must pay double match fees. The result is then recorded as a 3-0 win to the other team.
All borrowed players must have their name and details recorded on the match sheet. Under 10 and Under 11 borrowed players do not need to have a shirt number but need their name and details recorded.
Please check all borrowing rules in your Rule Book, however, always be careful of the real age of the player you are borrowing ie some players may be playing up an age group. For example, when you borrow from two grades down you need to make sure of the age of the person you are borrowing ie the W16B’s can borrow from the W14C’s … but if you borrow somebody that is only turning 13 this year, this will cost you the win and your 3 points. You need to make sure if you are borrowing from two years down that the person is actually (in this example) turning 14 years old this year.
The SSFA have the following bold and underlined as it is the rule most regularly breached. JW teams must be particularly careful:
PLAYERS AGED UP TO AND INCLUDING 16 YEARS OF AGE, AS GIVEN BY THE AGE THEY TURN IN THE YEAR, ARE ONLY PERMITTED TO PLAY OR BE BORROWED INTO ANY SIDE THAT IS EITHER ONE (1) OR TWO (2) YEARS ABOVE THEIR AGE. OTHER NORMAL BORROWING RULES APPLY.
Tips for Borrowing Players:
* work out at the beginning of the season which teams you can borrow from and get to know them. Find out where they are training or playing and introduce yourself to their coach and/or manager
* the team’s coach (or manager) should always be asked in the first instance to borrow a player. A full list of team coaches and managers is on the Shared Services website https://www.ssfaservices.com.au/
* usually coaches are happy to lend a player after they have played their game – please do not be offended if they do not wish to lend a player before their own team’s game
* if it is ok with the team’s coach (or manager) to borrow a player, please then approach the player (or their parent) to ask if they would like to fill in for your team
* each player must have a unique shirt number. Please access a different shirt for your borrowed player if they have the same number on their shirt as one of your players. The shirt number they are wearing must be recorded on the team sheet (u12+). There are a couple of older, numbered shirts in ground control at GBO if you are unable to access another shirt
* borrowed players (u10+) must show their ID card when being borrowed to the opposition team’s coach/manager. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
