2017 Giant & President's Award

2017 Giant & President's Award

10 Sep 2017

Each year at Junior & Senior Presentation, GUFC presents two important awards:

  • Giant of the Year - outstanding services by a volunteer committee person
  • President's Award - outstanding services by a volunteer

As with most local sports clubs, GUFC is run entirely by volunteers - committee, coaches, managers and many other helpers. With nearly 1600 players and 138 teams, running GUFC is a big job. It starts in January with registration, grading and teams commencing training - and ends in November/December with the annual general meeting and planning for the next season. It simply can't be understated - our volunteers ensure we all get to play football. Without them, we wouldn't have a club. Every effort is appreciated - we thank you all.

2017 Award recipients

Congratulations Mark Hildbrandt our extremely hard working and dedicated committee person, who received the 2017 President's Award.

Mark has held a number of positions on the GUFC committee since joining 10 years ago, including executive positions of Vice President, Head Coach (including Grading Coordinator) and Senior Registrar.  Mark has also organised the club's Small Sided Referees for the last six years, which includes training, scheduling and spending each Saturday morning organising games etc.

Mark has coached a number of teams over the last ten years including both his daughters teams.  An good example of Mark's passion for GUFC was shown this year when the 21E/2 needed a coach and Mark was the first to put up his hand to help ... with the team making the semi finals!  Thank you Mark.

Congratulations also to Lisa Brown who received the 2017 Giant of the Year Award.

Lisa has been integral part of the GUFC committee for many years, firstly as Minute Secretary and for the last seven years as Junior Registrar.

The Giant of the Year is a peer award and this season Lisa received a large percentage of the committee votes.  Lisa is the person everyone wants on a committee with them.   She is extremely hard working, intelligent and personable.  Lisa cares about each of the club members and does her best every season to help and support the 1566 players she diligently registers, often going far and beyond the job to make sure everyone gets onto the park for Round 1.

Thank you Lisa for all that you do for the club and fellow committee members.
