Great work by our 18A/1 and W21A/1 teams for qualifying for Football NSW Champion Of Champions competition. At time of print, both were still in the competition, with both a very good chance of winning. We wish them all the best, and really hope they bring home the trophy.

This year we saw more Improvement of the club’s facilities, with the finalisation of the men’s changeroom upgrade, as well as the expansion of the canteen storeroom facilities. Our next project will be our clubhouse expansion. It represents our club philosophy: Friendly, Family-Oriented and Community Focussed.

Our new Head Coach Enzo Torrillo brought back the Gymea United Football Academy this season, with the guidance of George Fernandez of Sydney Football Academy. It is really starting to show great progress, with numbers nearly doubling by the end of the season. The Academy was reintroduced to enhance football skills for players of all skill levels. Jon Long and the the SSFA also introduced a Coach the Coaches program, which is really starting to give coaches some help to develop our many players.

In 2017 the SSFA introduced Shared Services. Many clubs are faced with a problem of diminishing numbers of volunteers helping out to run their club.In this season’s pilot program Lilli Pilli and GUFC assisted the association, to have various jobs done by a paid SSFA person, in order to relieve many jobs that would normally be done by the club committee. Jeff, Brooke and the SSFA executive should be congratulated for the outcome and success of Shared Services.

We thank each and every one of our club volunteers who make “everything happen” each week.

GUFC presents two awards annually to our much appreciated volunteers:

Giant of the Year - outstanding services by a volunteer committee person
President's Award - outstanding services by a volunteer

Congratulations and Many Thanks to:

Mark Hildebrandt recipient of the 2017 President's Award, for spending many years assisting the club on the Committee, both as General Committee Officer, and Executive Committee Officer. Mark is currently the club Senior Registrar and MiniRoos Referee Coordinator.

Lisa Brown recipient of the 2017 Giant of the Year Award, for her years of dedicated service as a Committee Officer, initially as General Committee and currently as Junior Registrar.

We would like to express our gratitude to our Sponsors for their steadfast commitment and support of GUFC throughoutthe 2017 season.

We also thank the SSFA. The support from Jeff, Matt, Jon, Brooke, Kim and the other helpers in the office is truly amazing.

Lastly we thank the Referees, Sutherland Shire Council and other Clubs for ensuring players enjoyed football every week during the 2017 season.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a wonderful summer.
