Meet Rachael and her daughter Scarlet and learn why they and the W9B’s are spearheading the fundraising for the Beyond Blue Fundraising Round
We asked Rachael a couple of big questions:
Question 1: What made you want to run the Beyond Blue Mental Health Round?
I wanted to run the Beyond Blue Mental Health Round as Mental Health awareness & diminishing the stigma around it, is something that is very close to my heart. I am medically retired from NSW Police Force & have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I have seen the effects that Mental health issues such as Depression & Anxiety can have on people, both in my work & now in my own personal life. It is something that needs ongoing support & management, & importantly providing education to everyone around that person who is suffering. Many of us would know someone who has experienced these types of struggles, & I feel it is really important that we feel comfortable to openly talk about it, & ask for help. It is ok not to be ok!!
Question 2: What do you want people to know about Beyond Blue?
Beyond Blue are an amazing organisation who provide 24 hour/ 7 day week support to anyone that is struggling or needing to chat to a professional. They do incredible work for society, & by holding Fundraising events, this allows them to be able to continue to provide these services. We know that through maintaining good physical health, it can have a true positive impact on our Mental Health, as well as other contributing factors. I believe that through the MH match through GUFC, it is an opportunity to make players of all ages aware of the great work of Beyond Blue, fundraise & to have some fun too.
