GUFC's 60th Year Celebrations - 2019

GUFC's 60th Year Celebrations - 2019

As many of you know next season 2019 is GUFC's 60th year.

At a recent meeting, the Management Committee approved a really exciting draft list of events to celebrate this wonderful milestone.

The celebrations will focus on our rich history and our special place in the Gymea Community as the "Family Club". We will also look to celebrate the role volunteers play within GUFC past and present and our special place as a leader in diversity within football.

Oh yes and we hope you all will have lots of fun along the way.

More details will follow but lets all get together ... finish 2018 on a high AND make 2019 ever better!!!

GUFC History - 1990

GUFC History - 1990

"International Soccer at Gymea" from 1990 Yearbook
International soccer returned to Gymea Oval on Friday 27th July 1990 when the touring U.S.A. Eagles Under 14 team was taken on by a combined Under 14 Gymea team.
The match played on a heavy ground after torrential rain stopped one hour before the match was due to start and the despair of the two teams of boys was lifted after a fear that the match would be washed out.
With the score at 3 all five minutes before time it seemed a fair result but Gymea had other ideas and scored the winning goal only moments before the final whistle. After the match the Club in conjunction with the Under 14 parents put on a barbeque for all who attended before the visitors were billeted out for the night.
Apparently Gymea was the only Club to offer billets to the visitors who came from Hollywood area in California and made a three week tour of Australian Eastern States.
Wanda Surf Life Saving Club organised to open their doors to the boys from both teams on the Saturday and put on a display of their Inflatable Rubber Boats and how they are used in surf rescues.
We trust the Eagles will remember their visit to Gymea and the Sutherland Shire!
