About the coach

GUFC has secured the services Ron Tilsed as Goalkeeper coach for 2012!

Ron Tilsed started his goalkeeping career at a tender age and his talents were spotted more or less straight away with several top professional clubs chasing him for his signature.

One of Ron's biggest successes as a youngster was playing for England Youth and winning the Youth World Cup In 1971. This was hosted in the old Czechoslovakia at the time and Ron helped his England side to the finals by saving 3 penalties in the semi final!

Ron eventually won 15 caps for his country!

Ron played professionally for Arsenal, and was second choice to the legendary Bob Wilson in the infamous double winning side of 1971, before moving on to Portsmouth where he was number one keeper.

Ron then moved to Australia where he continued to play semi professionally.

Over his time as a professional goalkeeper, Ron worked alongside some of the biggest names to come out of the world of goalkeeping - Bob Wilson and Peter Shilton and to this day he remains close friends with Kevin Bond and Harry Redknapp currently managers at premiership giants Tottenham Hotspur.

Ron is also the goalkeeper coach of the Sutherland Sharks and has played a large part in their success in recent seasons.
